Fear Listening

There’s a fear that we listen to

When wrapping those bones

In tissues, damp with a hero’s tears

And a numb thump thump

In my cavity

Viscous capillaries swirl against soul

Nerve ends sparkle in the past

As if corporal signals bestow what we no longer have

Nothing left but false memories

Lights left off on what we know

All left on murderers row

Listen to the fear

Have no fears

Listen to the fears

That morning on a street

We’d never stumbled alone

Leaving peels of your feet

On the asphalt cold

Dimples of concrete

Riddled with tar

and the sole of your shoe

I’d watch dinosaurs die

And take a moonshot to Mars

where we’d eat the fossils we left behind

Listen to the fear

Have no fears

Listen to the fears

That is the tingle, somewhere inside, not like cotton candy

but like pain, and maybe blood, and maybe crushed bone

ahh the pain. We know what that is.

It is that red rock we left on the plains of all previous existences

They gather dust while waiting for our mishap, our stumble, our frail little minds, held back through a singular white crust—that bone, that bone

We share it with the animals

It’s what makes us know we’re all from here.

We’re all from here.

We’re all from here.
