Pay attention to the sparks!
Rain splay
across my window
light stained gray
with trees hung low
muted bare in their shallow sway
roots asunder beneath neglected snow
I’d do anything to be in the know.
The water, cloud given, engulfing, alone
sticks to the glass
If I looked at it under a microscope it would glisten
orbit around, translucent, reflective, a swimming pool of nature’s desire
If I looked at it from my bedroom window it would glisten
spin about, transparent, porous, a swimming hole of nature’s desire.
That the light drops catch light in so many ways is meaningful
the sparks are for the sun and for our thoughts
our progression, our nature
the way we can and may and maybe should conceive of the world
the ways it could be, all suspended in the little light that drops from the clouds to our feet
with our eyes the interpreter of the brief glimpse of
god’s will.
